We created this original Rapa Nui cuisine proposal for you to participate and sample these exquisite and original ancestral cooking methods: Tunuahi & Umu.
The Umu is a underground cooking form where ingredients such as beef, chicken, pork and fish along with yam, po’e and sweet potatoe are slowly cooked between red hot volcanic rocks covered by huge banana leaves. Once ready, portions are served on rubber plant leaves.
Tunuahi is the local barbeque form. Fish and meats are cooked on red-hot volcanic rocks piled in a triangular form. Once ready, they are usually served with salads and sweet potatoe chips on rubber plant leaves instead of traditional plates.
Both of these cooking styles are done near the ocean shore, under palm trees at lunch or dinnertime, lit by candles, under the stars you will enjoy these typical Rapa Nui gourmet dishes, along with tropical drinks and mellow island music.
We offer custom made lunch / dinners based upon your specific requests all year round.
