Henua : Land Adventure

Trekking, horseback riding or mountain biking are the best ways to cover all three tips of the island and discover the unreachable places Rapa Nui has hiding.

The Henua Adventure begins horseback riding through the northern territory of the island called Hanga O’ Teo, discovering this breathtaking desolated region, the island’s “wild land” that only few dare to visit. The ride is full of mysterious caves, caverns, petroglyphs, archeological sites and cliffs that overview the vast ocean… a photographer’s paradise!

In company of your Rapanui hosts, a midway stop at Omohi, a location commonly used for fishing from the rocks, you will engaged in fishing practice the way the locals do. This method of ‘line fishing’ is called Hi Ika and depending on your luck, the catch of the day will be part of a Rapa Nui barbeque, set amidst the wild scenery in a cave by the sea the same way the ancestors did. You will learn to cook the local fish in red-hot volcanic stones, an ancestral method commonly used today called Tunuahi.

The ride continues peacefully, trailing towards the north east side of the island where the beautiful turquoise waters of Anakena beach await. This is the final stop of the journey where you will be able to enjoy a deserved rest at the unique setting Anakena has to offer.

Vai Kava : Sea Adventure

The Rapanui have been associated to the sea since the beginning of their history. To experience first hand what these men from the sea lived thousands of years ago, to view a different perspective of the island from afar, to capture and undergo the same feeling ancestral divers must of felt when they dove and discovered the magical submarine world that coexists in these waters is what we want to share with you in our Vai Kava : Sea Adventure.

Whether it’s on a local fish boat or a sailboat, the trip to the Motus, the three islets: Motu Iti, Motu Kao Kao, Motu Nui, at the southern tip of the island where long ago the Birdman, ‘Tangata Manu’ competition was held is the first stop of the journey. At the Motus you will enjoy the beautiful view of these islets below the imposing Rano Kau volcano cliff, the incomparable deep blue color of the sea where you will be able to swim and snorkel around the Motus.

From here you will border Hanga Roa town’s coastline, sailing to Motu Tautara islet where the world’s largest coral head is located. This journey provides a great view from the sea towards the island, especially when reaching Tahai National Park, where you can appreciate the back view of the mythical Tahai moais. Once you reach Motu Tautara you will be part of an incredible setting, which includes a great variety of marine life and extraordinary shades of blue which lead you to view from above or dive deep enough to touch the famous gigantic coral head and discover it’s magical underwater surroundings.

The boat trip will now take course towards its final destination, Anakena Beach, bordering the north coast. You will be able to enjoy the view of Hanga O’ Teo, the northern less visited side of the island, it’s cliffs, coves and beautiful changing ocean colors until you reach Anakena cove where you will descend to enjoy a well deserved rest from the boat ride.
