MAHATU (LOVE/WEDDING RECEPTIONS)

We have arranged to produce weddings receptions or vow renewals in the ideal and magical island setting the same way the ancestral Rapanui did. If you wish to seal your commitment with that special person in an exclusive, unique and absolutely wonderful way, then you can sign up for the “Mahatu Experience” , held in the most spectacular sceneries of the island at sunset with Rapa Nui musicians, traditional dancers, beautiful flower arrangements and a delicious feast in a magical never imagined event. The ceremonies are held by a “koro” (elder) in Rapanui language. You can select the scenery: Anakena or Ovahe beaches, Ahu Togariki (15 Moais Platform), or Tahai National Park.

We offer two ceremony options:

Hanga Tuai (Ancestral Union Ceremony): In this ceremonial ritual you will be transformed in ancestral bride and groom. The bride will be dressed in a feathered gown, adorned and body painted the way the ancestors did. The groom will wear a “hami” (loincloth of mahute and feathers) and his face and body will also be painted with “kiea”, earth colored paint. All guests will also have the opportunity to be painted with kiea if desired.

Polynesian  Style Ceremony: This is a truly Polynesian ceremony where everything in the reception is decorated with tropical flowers the way the Polynesians do, the setting and arrangements are done with hundreds of different island flowers and the bride’s gown will be a beautiful “Pareu” dress. The groom will also dress with a pareu outfit. The table settings, decoration, musicians, dancers and guests will also be adorned and dressed  Polynesian style, forming a magical ambience to carry out this ceremony.
